Overview

Olivier Maher

Title

Pre-Doctorate Candidate, Neuromorphic Computing

Location

IBM Research Europe - Zurich Zurich, Switzerland

Bio

Olivier joined IBM Research Zurich in 2021 as a Ph.D. candidate in the Science & Technology and the Neuromorphic devices for Analog computing groups. He is part of a joint Doctorate program between the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), the University of Zurich, and the IBM Research Zurich Lab.

He is currently involved in the European project NeurONN in the framework of Horizon 2020, where the goal is to design an energy-efficient neuromorphic computing architecture. His research mainly focuses on investigating Oscillating Neural Networks based on the metal-insulator phase transition of Vanadium-Oxide. His interests include:

  • Low-power design applied to telecoms
  • Circuit Design and Digital Filtering
  • SoC integration for IoT
  • Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision
  • Neuromorphic Engineering

Olivier holds an M.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and a Bachelors of Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. He conducted his Master's thesis at Yale University under the supervision of distinguished late professor T.P. Ma on three-dimensional hafnium-oxide-based ferroelectric memories, for which he was awarded the LEM prize of excellence. His work was also published at the IEEE SISC 2020 conference. He has served as a research intern and associate at NTT Yokosuka Research Park (Japan), Yale University (USA), and Bombardier Aerospace (Canada).
