The methodology is reviewed by which the absorbed dose in a sample is obtained from the absorbed dose in a calibrated plastic dosimetric film. Several example calculations are shown in order to demonstrate the use of the stopping power equation which relates the absorbed dose in a dosimeter to the absorbed dose in a sample. Calculations of this nature are required when the composition, density and film thicknesses of a sample differ significantly from the dosimetric film.
