The theory for Esaki tunneling in the presence of a magnetic field is given for both transverse and longitudinal magnetic fields; it is shown that there are important qualitative differences between the two cases. Expressions are given for the normalized current I(B)/I(0) in both field orientations in the limit of strong magnetic field. Itis found that oscillations of the de Haas-Van Alphen type are not to be expected. © 1961.
