We consider a broadband network using the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), where loss priorities are used. With the loss priority scheme, cells of low-priority classes are accepted only if the instantaneous buffer queue length at the cell arrival epoch is below a given threshold. We propose algorithms to solve for the cell loss rates, and model the input by Markov-modulated Bernoulli processes. Finally, we investigate the effect of the loss priority scheme on data, voice, and video traffic. © 1991 IEEE
