Brian Kingsbury

My Background

I've been a research staff member at IBM Research since 1999. Before that, I was working on my PhD in computer science at the International Computer Science Institute and the University of California, Berkeley. I earned my undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at Michigan State University.

Things I Do

I do research on large vocabulary speech recognition and audio indexing, with a focus on acoustic modeling and robustness. Most recently I've focused on neural networks and deep learning.

I serve as the chair of the User Interface Technologies Professional Interest Community (UIT PIC), the organization within IBM Research that sponsors conferences and workshops and organizes visits by external speakers in the areas of speech processing and computer vision.

I'm an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing.

I serve on the editorial board of Digital Signal Processing.
