2061Update: In Fall 2011 I will join the IEMS department at Northwestern University. My new email address is:
I am a member of the Mathematical Programming group in the Mathematical Sciences Department at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center. Before joining IBM in 2002, I received my Ph.D from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, and Master's Degree ("Diplom") in Mathematics at the University of Cologne.
My main research interest is the design, analysis, and implementation of algorithms for continuous and discrete nonlinear optimization, as well as their application to engineering problems.
I'm involved in several software projects at COIN-OR, specifically
- Ipopt (as main developer and project manager): Large-scale nonlinear optimization
- Bonmin: (Mostly) convex mixed-integer nonlinear optimization
- Couenne: Nonconvex mixed-integer nonlinear optimization
I'm an associate editor for Mathematical Programming Computation. I received the 2009 INFORMS Computing Society Prize and the 2002 SIAM Student Paper Prize.
