Dieter Gantenbein is a senior research staff member in the Systems Management group of the Computer Science department at IBM Research - Zurich.
Born in Switzerland, he received the Diploma in E.E. from ETH in Zurich in 1981. In 1983 he received the M.S. degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University, USA.
He joined the IBM Zurich lab in 1983 to implement OSI network and transport protocols on top of the IBM Tokenring. From 1995-99 he was partner leader in the European ACTS MISA project on the Management of Integrated SDH and ATM networks and web-based management systems. From 2000-2008 he managed the Research AIDA Advanced Infrastructure Discovery and Analysis project with IDD and AURORA technologies being transferred to Tivoli Systems Management products and used in customer solutions world-wide. He received a number of IBM Invention and Outstanding Technical Contribution Awards.
He currently represents IBM in the Danish EDISON consortium on 'Electric vehicles in a Distributed and Integrated market using Sustainable energy and Open Networks' and coordinates IBM's participation in the EcoGrid EU FP7 project (Large scale Smart Grids demonstration of real time market-based integration of distributed generation and active customer participation).
