I am a Research Staff Member in the Analytics Algorithms and Architecture group at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center. I currently serve on the Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee (2012-2014). From 1996-2011 I worked in the speech recognition area.
My current focus is on fraud analytics, satellite imagery, agriculture, machine learning, matrix function optimization and anything to do with non-smooth optimization. Here are some recent selected talks I have given at IBM: Covariance Selection, Automatic Matrix Differentiation Divided differences and the linear exponential family.
I live in Cortlandt Manor, next to the beautiful Blue Mountain reservation. My wife, Fatima Sehba, is an associate professor at Mount Sinai Medical School and holds a joint appointment in Neuroscience and Neurosurgery.
My interests are:
- Mountain Biking: Check out the trails in my backyard: Blue Mountain Trailway.
- Chess: I play correspondence chess online on schemingmind and 5 minute chess on lichess.
- White water kayaking: It's been a while now, but the Dryway in Massachusetts used to be one of my favorites.
