Dr. Jian Ni is a Research Staff Member at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. His current research activities involve developing and inventing state-of-the-art AI systems and techniques with transformers and large language models. Dr. Ni received several corporate awards, including IBM Invention Achievement Plateau Award, IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards, and IBM Research Outstanding Accomplishment Awards. He has published more than 50 papers, including publications in top international conferences and journals such as ACL, EMNLP, IJCAI, INFOCOM, and IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.
Dr. Ni received the B.Eng. degree in Automation from Tsinghua University in 2001, the M.Phil. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in 2008. Prior to joining IBM in 2010, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and networking.
