profile

My work at IBM Research involves applying machine learning and simulation to various problems in the healthcare domain, such as weight and fitness management.

Before joining IBM research, I was a program manager at Microsoft working on automated methods for detecting and resolving MS Exchange service distruptions. In 2008 I spent a year doing research in the Business Analytics and Mathematical Sciences (BAMS) group at IBM Research working on data mining projects for demand forecasting.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems engineering with a focus in operations research.  I received a B.S. and M. Eng. from Cornell University in operations research and information engineering.

My dissertation was on evaluating optimal control strategies of Clostridium difficile infection in hospitals via agent-based simulation and constrained Markov decision process modeling. My prior research focused on using discrete-event simulation to model inventory policies for critical hospital supplies needed during pandemic influenza.
