Emily Ray is a research scientist with the Data Science Group at IBM Research.. She is currently working on projects in healthcare and analytics bias in the Science for Social Good initiative that leverages data science and human-centered design to help solve tough humanitatian and development problems from reducing or eliminating inequalities, to improving access to health care and education, etc.

Previously, Emily led the early childhood education transformation initiative to develop personalized learning systems for young children.  Past research has also focused on focused on automated building of ontologies from unstructured data and concept clustering as well as fast relaibility test development for chips and circuits.

Emily received her Ph.D. in Physics from the University of North Carolina in 2012 specializing in visible-wavelength plasmonics characterization and nanoscale materials fabrication un Dr. Rene Lopez.  She earned her B.A. in Physics from Vanderbilt Unviersity and worked with Dr. Leonard Feldman investigating the pressure dependency of SiC oxidation.
