Principal Research Staff Member
Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY USA

I am a Research Staff Member at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in the Risk Analytics group within Mathematical Sciences. My interests and expertise include mathematical modeling, mathematical programming and risk-averse stochastic optimization. Other interests include process control of linear, nonlinear and hybrid systems, continuous and discrete event simulation, and dynamic modeling and optimization of chemical processes.

I received a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. My advisors were Joseph Pekny and Gintaras Reklaitis, and my dissertation focused on combinatorial decision-making for process management problems under uncertainty, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical product development pipelines. At IBM, my specific interests include operational risk modeling, portfolio analysis, and risk-averse static and dynamic stochastic optimization. Prior to joining IBM Research in August 2005, I was a Senior Research Scientist (since Jan 2002) at Honeywell Labs in Minneapolis, where I conducted basic and applied research activities for a diverse set of domains, including supply-side energy portfolio optimization for optimal utility contracts, cogeneration-based integrated energy systems, aircraft trajectory optimization, wireless sensor networks, and nonlinear hybrid process control.
