Dr. Chi Xiong is a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. His current research activities are focused on designing monolithic silicon photonic tranceivers for optical interconnects applications. His other research interests include nonlinear optical effects in integrated waveguide devices and optomechanical resonators.
Dr. Xiong received a B.S. degree in Microelectronics from Peking University, Beijing, China in 2006 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in 2012. Prior to joining IBM in 2013, he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Yale University. His research interests at Yale University include chip-scale nonlinear optics and optomechanics based on nonlinear crystalline semiconductors, especially piezoelectric aluminum nitride thin films. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles. He holds one U.S. patent.
