Dr. Albrecht is a research scientist in the Physical Sciences department at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. He graduated in physics with an extra certification in computer science and received a corresponding Ph.D. degree from Heidelberg University, Germany in 2014. Dr. Albrecht's research focus interconnects physical modeling and numerical analysis.
In his Ph.D. thesis he employed distributed computing to study physics at low temperatures.
As a member of the Physical Analytics group at the T.J. Watson Research Center he works on scalable analytics of geo-spatial big data. This work includes
- supercomputing related aspects such as Linux compute cluster management and Apache HBase/Hadoop & Spark for PAIRS,
- performance analysis of data I/O as well as algorithm optimization and platform design for processing geo-spatial information ranging from satellite images to agriculture surveys,
- machine learning driven analysis and remote sensing for LiDAR data and multi-spectral satellite images (GEOBIA)
