Dr. Costa is a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Center, working on system software and middleware for next-generation HPC systems. His work is focused on new approaches for MapReduce-like middlwares that take advantage of custom and high-end hardware features. His work also includes novel methods for software/hardware cooperation to improve system resiliency. His areas of expertise are high-performance computing, system software, fault-tolerance, code generation and runtime optimization, energy-aware computing and networking. Previously, he has worked in research projects with IBM Research (US) as a co-op researcher and a postdoctoral fellow, and Ericsson Research (Sweden) as a graduate student. He has received his Ph.D and M.Sc. in computer engineering from University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and a B.Sc. in computational physics from University of Brasilia (Brazil).
