I am currently the Chief Scientist and a Senior Manager for IBM Commerce Research and am responsible for creating innovative and scalable solutions for key problems that omnichannel commerce businesses face today. Examples of these include Contextual Customer Engagement and Omnichannel Operations Optimization. I work closely with the world wide IBM Research Labs and IBM product teams that deliver platforms, analytics, and industry specific solutions.

I like to innovate and try to deeply influence both the industry and the academic communites, and transitively our society, with my efforts.

Recent impacts of my work to IBM products include location services, coupon wallets, and REST enablement of IBM WebSphere Commerce,  XC10 data caching appliances, and enterprise mashups and visual analytics.

I helped launch and define the agenda for the IBM Korea Ubiquitous Computing Laboratory that is now part of a growing Korea Software Solutions Lab.

Earlier, I pioneered novel concepts in mobile computing such as -  the Linux Watch (aka WatchPad), SoulPad, and Personal Mobile Hub with focus on health monitoring, Inverted Browsers (essentially modern mobile app model where the browser is included in the app), Mobile Loyalty for on the spot in store offers, a navigation system that was the first to provide photographs along with route information (precursor to Google Street View).

My early work was in high performance parallel graphics architectures for workstations and PCs, and in OpenGL graphics standards (OpenGL ES is the dominant graphics API in every today's smartphone).

I was twice named an IBM Master Inventor and hold more than 90 US Patents. I am named on several IBM Research Accomplishments.I served as the Associate Editor in Chief for IEEE Pervasive Computing and guest-edited issues on Pervasive Retail, Healthcare, Energy Harvesting, and Virtual Machines. I have published more than 40 scientific papers and served on Program Committees for several ACM and IEEE technical conferences.

I obtained my PhD in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and my BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Bombay. I have also completed a year long Micro-MBA program at IBM Research. I was elected a Fellow of the IEEE in 2008 for my contributions to pervasive computing. I have been fortunate to have my work covered by the world’s leading newspapers and appeared on the covers of several technical publications and in analyst reports.
