Bing Xiang is currently a Manager and Research Staff Member in IBM Watson Group, leading the Cognitive Analytics and Deep Learning Department. His work spans multiple areas, including Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Question Answering, Statistical Machine Translation, and Speech Recognition. He was a major contributor to many research projects, including DARPA EARS, TRANSTAC, GALE, and BOLT. Since 2014, he has been leading a team of researchers and engineers developing core algorithms for Watson Cloud Services, including Natural Language Classifier and Watson Conversation Service.

Dr. Xiang has published over 50 papers in top journals and conferences, and acted as an active reviewer for IEEE transactions and major conferences, such as IEEE Trans. Audio, Speech, Language Processing, IEEE Trans. Neural Networks, IEEE Trans. Systems, Man and Cybernetics, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Journal of Applied Signal Processing, ACM TALIP, ACL, NAACL-HLT, and Interspeech. He was a Program Committee Member of ACL, NAACL-HLT, AAAI and AMTA. Dr. Xiang received the Best Paper Award at NAACL-HLT 2007, and various awards from IBM, including Delivery Excellence Award in 2008, Certificate of Appreciation for the Work on DARPA TRANSTAC Program in 2009, Eminence and Excellence Award in 2012, Outstanding Contributor Award in 2013, Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in 2016, and numerous Invention Achievement Awards.

Dr. Xiang received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University in Jan 2003, his M.E degree in Signal and Information Processing from Peking University in 1998, and his B.S. degree in Electronics from Peking University in 1995, with Excellent Graduate Honor.
