Dr. Shenghua Bao is currently manager of Knowledge Discovery and Analytics team in the newly established Watson group. In his new role, Shenghua lead the team to extract knowledge from a large variety of data sources and develop analytics services to enable scalable WDA solution, an important next step to take the solution to the next level.
Prior to that, Shenghua was co-lead of Global Technology Outlook 2014 and made significant contributions including in helping bring multiple teams and ideas together in Cloud 3.0 and in supporting the IoT 3.0 topic. Prior to his GTO co-lead role, Shenghua was a research staff member at Information Analysis and Search department, IBM Research-China. He joined IBM in 2008 after receiving his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interests lie primarily in web mining and text analytics.
So far, Shenghua has published more than 30 journal and conference papers on WWW, SIGIR, ACL and TKDE with a total citation number of more than 1200. He is active in academic community by serving as an editor of CCF TechNews, a PC member of AINA 2009, EMNLP 2010, WSDM 2010, WWW 2012, WWW 2013, WWW 2014 and a reviewer of IEEE TKDE, ACM TALIP, TIST, IPM, JIS, WWWJ, IJCIS, JASIST, JBCS.
Shenghua is recently elected as an IBM Master Inventor for his excellent patent application records and great contribution to IBM’s global leadership on patents creation. Shenghua totally owns more than 30 US / international patent applications.
