Amanda Engler earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She earned a masters degree in chemical engineering practice from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For her masters degree, she worked as a technical consultant for Novartis in Basel, Switzerland and General Mills in Minneapolis, MN. She went on to complete her Ph.D. in 2010 in chemical engineering under the direction of Professor Paula Hammond. Her work focused on the development of synthetic polypeptides for therapeutic delivery, tissue engineering, and antimicrobial applications. In January 2011, she joined the nanomedicine team at IBM Almaden Research Center. Her current research focuses on developing new biodegradable polymers for consumer products and pharmaceutical applications. She is also the project coordinator for the IBM-Almaden Nanomedicine program.
