Daby Sow has joined IBM Research in October 2000 as a research scientist. He is currently a Senior Manager and a Principal Research Staff Member at IBM Research since 2015 and 2014 respectively. In his management role, he has been leading teams in the IBM Research Kenya Lab with a focus on Cognitive Governance and Healthcare, as part of an international assignment.  Prior to this, he was part of the Exploratory Stream Analytics department at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown where he lead IBM efforts to apply stream computing technologies to problems in healthcare, mainly in intensive care. He was the technical lead of the IBM Data Baby project that resulted in several research and production system deployments worldwide in critical care units.

 

Daby has received numerous recognition for his work including two IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards. He has also received the external Black Engineer of the Year Award for Outstanding Technical Contribution – Industry (2015, USA). He holds more than a dozen of patents issued in United States and has authored over 50 technical articles (book chapters, top journal and conference articles) in various areas ranging from information theory, knowledge discovery and data mining, middleware, pervasive computing and medical informatics.  

 

Daby received the B.Science. degree in Electrical Engineering from Universite Laval, Quebec, Canada in 1994, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, NY in 1996 and 2000, respectively.
