I started my professional career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science (ECECS) at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH (USA) where I later became a tenured Associate Professor and Director of the Artificial Neural Systems Laboratory. My work has mostly focused on pattern recognition, machine learning, self-organization, mathematical modeling, adaptation, and application of these technologies to various areas. I joined IBM Research - India in 2002 where I first led the Adaptive and High Performance activities and then the IT Infrastructure Management activities. In the middle of 2009, I took an assignment to be the IBM Chief Architect of the Bharti Account (amongst other things, one of India's largest telecom providers). This has perhaps been one of the most challenging things I have done and I do have the satisfaction of having done academic research, industrial research, and a high profile client facing role. Over the years, I have served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Pattern Analysis and Applications (Springer) as well as on the program committees of various conferences. I am also a member of the IBM Academy of Technology and a recepient of the 2008 Gerstner Award for Client Excellence.
