Vita Bortnikov is a Research Staff Member in the Distributed Middleware group at the IBM Research -Haifa. She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. (both Summa Cum Laude) degrees in computer science from the Technion in 1996 and 2000 respectively. Prior to her M.Sc. studies she was part of the Compiler Technologies group in IBM Research. Her M.Sc. thesis was in the area of distributed algorithms. In the years 2000-2005 Vita was a technical leader and manager in the development team of a WAN optimization product in Actona (acquired by Cisco in 2004). She returned to the IBM Research Lab in Haifa and assumed her current position in 2005.

Vita Bortnikov’s research interests are in all areas of distributed computing and in particular, cloud computing, fault-tolerance, and peer-to-peer computing. In last years her research concentrates in the area of large scale distributed systems, middleware for cloud computing and platform as a service. She is an active inventor, with multiple US patents in different areas of computer science.
