Simona Rabinovici-Cohen is a researcher and architect at the IBM Research Laboratory in Haifa, Israel. She holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in computer science, both from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Simona leads the Biomedical Framework that provides a big data analytics platform for integrating diverse analytics modules into pipelines and executing them efficiently in a variety of scalable infrastructures (e.g. Apache UIMA, Apache SPARK, Platform LSF). Prior to that, she led various projects in the areas of biomedical informatics, information management and storage systems for the cloud, including the projects preservation data stores, storlet engine, kiosk technology deployed in the Hermitage museum in Russia, biomedical information integration, and IBM Clinical Genomics solution. She was also a work package leader in several EU projects.

Simona pioneered Storlets for executing computations close to the data in a sandbox within the storage, and created its first implementation for OpenStack Swift open source. She was also the main author of Self-contained Information Retention Format (SIRF) specification in SNIA standardization efforts.
