Igor Oliveira joined IBM Research in June, 2013. With a background in Meteorology and a MSc degree in Atmospheric Sciences, his interests are mainly the impacts of atmospheric impacts of different scales on human activities like agriculture, industrial production and city development. Most of his research is carried using atmospheric modelling as the main tool, in order to simulate these meteorological impacts and interactions of climate and vegetation, oceans and so on. Interests also include Climate Change studies such as future scenarios and downscaling. Within IBM, he focus particularly in using IBM Deep Thunder and other sources of wetaher & climate data in projects involving visualization, machine learning methods, verification and others. Before joining IBM research, Igor had a broad experience in different areas of Meteorology and Weather, acting as forecaster for the Brazilian Navy and as Head Meteorologist of city of Rio early warning system Alerta Rio. He also worked closely to the Business side of Meteorology and gathered relevant knowledge of the sensors and systems current market.
