Camen Nilda Mena Paz is a Research Staff Member in the Natural Resources group at IBM Research – Brazil. She completed her Post-PhD (2002) Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Department of Civil Engineering, Technology Group on Computer Graphics -TecGraf - PUC-Rio – Brazil. During the Pos doctorate her research, Computational performance for a vector-parallel implementation: 3D probabilistic model discrete cracking in concrete. PhD (2000) in Civil Engineering, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro UFRJ – Brazil - PEC Program of Civil Engineering - COPPE The Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering. During the doctorate her research Implementation and Development of Probabilistic Model for 2D and 3D Discrete Cracking Concrete in Vector-Parallel Computing.

M.Sc. (1995) in Civil Engineering. Fluminense Federal University UFF, Civil Engineering, Niteroi, Brazil . During the Master her research Computational model for nonlinear analysis of beams and columns of reinforced concrete with confinement in the plastic zone.

Carmen she joined IBM in September 2012. Prior to joining IBM, she worked for the: 2009 – 2011 in Research Center of Computational Method and Offshore Systems of the Programs of Civil Engineering LAMCSO/PEC/COPPE/UFRJ , Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she was researcher of the Computational Mechanics group. She worked in MPI-Based implementation the parallel algorithm for overlapped domain decomposition methods for Implicit Nonlinear Dynamics Analysis for coupled analysis of offshore platforms. 2003 – 2008 she worked in Research Center of Computational Method in Engineering of the Programs of Civil Engineering LAMCE/PEC/COPPE/UFRJ, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, - where she was researcher of the Computational Mechanics group. She worked in: Structural Analysis of subsea wellhead systems; High Performance Computing, Vector-Parallel Performance Analysis, Fracture Mechanics, Heterogeneity material, Finite Element Method, Mesh Generation.

Carmen is the author/co-author of more than 22 papers published in in journals and in conference proceedings. Her research interests are High Performance Computing, Finite Element Method, Mechanics of Structures, Fracture Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Analysis of Subsea Wellhead System, Analysis of Offshore Systems.
