Steve Moore joined IBM in early 2010. Prior to this year, he was undertaking postdoctoral research in the Centre for Bioengineering at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. His area of research was studying blood flow in the brain. This research involved software development with the ITK and VTK frameworks for preprocessing and segmentation of computational models of the cerebral arteries from MRI data, a systems biology style incorporation of the cerebral biochemistry regulating blood flow, and the implementation of the 3D computational fluid dynamics simulations of the blood flow with OpenFOAM. Steve has recently spent time at IBM T.J. Watson research centre designing code combining C++ and MPI for Blue Gene and power series architectures connecting different supercomputers for a common simulation.
