Dr. Rahil Garnavi received her BSc in Software Engineering in 2003, and her MSc in Artificial Intelligence in 2005. She completed her Ph.D. in 2011 at the University of Melbourne, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, developing a computer-aided diagnostic system for melanoma. Rahil joined IBM Research Australia in June 2011 as a research scientist. She has been leading the multimedia analytics team since then, actively driving computer vision related projects in the healthcare domain and other industries. She has also hold honorary research fellowship position in the Department of Computing and Information Systems at The University of Melbourne and mentoring students. Rahil has authored numerous research papers in image analytics presented in conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, also holds 6 patents. Some of her work experience in industry prior to her Ph.D. includes business analysis and data modelling, software design and development. Her research interests involve image and video analytics, machine learning, and cognitive computing. Dr. Garnavi is a member of IEEE.
